Employment
Transitional Employment is an employment program
designed to provide opportunities of work experience
for members who have not worked for some time. TE
bridges the gap between the work units
of the clubhouse and employment. The Clubhouse
obtains a number of part time jobs from local employers. A placement
manager initally learns the job and determines its suitability for TE.
The Placement manager will then train a clubhouse member on the job
until the member can sucessfully handle the job
alone. Daily on-going contact between the member
and the clubhouse is maintained as well as site visits
to the job. The Clubhouse guarantees that if a member cannot work
the job for any reason,
a staff member or other suitable person will
work the job to ensure that daily productivity is met.
Each placement lasts approximately six to nine months.
The placements are time limited and this gives
lots of people a chance to work.
When a member has worked several placements or feels
ready, he or she can move into Supported or Independent
Employment. Koolau Clubhouse provides a range of supports to help
members accomplish these goals. Job
coaching, resume development, interviewing skills, and researching
effects of income related to benefits are some of the areas Koolau Clubhouse provides as an assistance to members.
